Clara Hammond-Garcia

Clara is located in Sutton.

Clara is an Integrative Arts Psychotherapist who works with adults and children.  She incorporates principles from different psychological perspectives including, Psychoanalysis, Humanistic, Gestalt, Object Relations, Neuropsychology, CBT, Systemic and Attachment Theory, since she believes that human beings cannot be understood from any single dimensional perspective.   As a way to facilitate the exploration and expression of the internal world or issues that are difficult to express in words, Clara uses different art mediums such as painting, drawing, music, movement, puppetry, modelling and sand trays, amongst others, and she invites her clients to experiment with their own creativity.

Clara qualified as a Psychologist in 1988. She has a diploma in Child Psychotherapeutic skills, certificates in Systemic Practice with Families and Couples, and in the use of arts in therapy and education. She studied and practised Psychoanalysis for 5 years and is a qualified facilitator for the “Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities” parenting programme. She obtained her M.A in Integrative Arts Psychotherapy in 2005 from The Institute of Arts in Therapy and Education and the London Metropolitan University.

Clara has a long and varied experience across a number of settings, always acting as a facilitator of personal growth in her clients. She has worked with autistic children and in primary and secondary schools as an Educational Psychologist.  She has provided consultant services in leadership and human development for multinational organizations and has lectured in Human Development to master’s degree level.  She has worked with Social Services in a Children and Family team and became familiar with the complex needs of Looked After Children.  She also has experience of working for the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) in the Looked After Children team and the Children’s Team. More recently she has been working in the voluntary sector in a Family Centre, with children and families as a Psychotherapist. She also has a private practice with adults and children.
