Dorothy is a psychotherapist, who has extensive knowledge of working with individuals, parents, couples, and families, who may have experienced or are experiencing: anxiety, depression, panic, stress, loss or the effects of separation.  All of which could be having a negative impact on their daily life, and personal or professional relationships. She is particularly skilled in working with families, parents, children and adolescents at times of difficulty in the areas of parenting, behaviour and relationship break down.. She also works with people who are feeling at a loss and struggling to find a sense of direction in their life.

Dorothy is a qualified and experienced Clinical Supervisor who has been providing supervision for qualified Systemic Therapists and trainees. She is also a consultant to teams and a trainer on parenting, child protection, and the complex issues surrounding fostering and adoption.

Within her practice, Dorothy invites people to think about their belief systems and how they have been created over time. This includes past experiences and the influence they have on present interactions. She also uses Solution-Focussed Theory, and practices from Cognitive Behaviour Therapy to explore with people their thought processes to help them create solutions and a positive future.

Over the years Dorothy has been working with people in a number of different contexts. These include adult mental health - addressing issues of postnatal depression, depression and psychological problems. She has also worked with a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service addressing concerns around behavioural, psychological problems, and parenting concerns. Within this context she has worked with couple relationships and family interaction, with a particular focus on marital separation and its multiple consequences for all involved.  She has managed a Specialist Family Service which included working with birth, foster and adoption families, using a range of evidence based interventions to create positive outcomes. In this setting she published, with a colleague, a paper focussing on issues associated with grandparents caring for grandchildren.

Earlier in her career, Dorothy established a Rape and Sexual Assault Centre and through this developed specialist knowledge of providing therapy for people who have been affected by rape and sexual assault.

Dorothy has been a tutor and supervisor on the Masters course for Systemic Psychotherapy. She is an accredited trainer for the organisation Child and Family who provide a range of training for professionals working with families.

She is a member of AFT & UKCP and Dorothy adheres to the Codes of Practice of both organisations.
