Julia is located in Beckenham.

Julia is a qualified Systemic Psychotherapist who has particular expertise with children, young people, couples, and families. She has experience of working with families and individuals who seek help with issues relating to adult, child, and adolescent mental health, parenting, self-harming, anxiety and panic, depression, self-esteem, relationship difficulties, family breakdown and separation, school refusal, and coping with life changes.

Julia encourages people to recognize their own strengths and resources, and helps them explore more positive ways of living and getting on with each other. Her approach is tailored to meeting the needs and preferences of the people who come to see her - sharing and respecting different perspectives, beliefs and experiences, talking and thinking together about the difficulties that lead people to seek help, and exploring how those difficulties affect individuals and family members.

Julia has worked within the National Health Service in teams offering assessment and treatment for children and their families in relation to complex issues including sexual, emotional and physical abuse.  She also worked within a small multi-disciplinary children's service in the voluntary sector.  Julia has recently returned from a year in Singapore, where she practised in a small counselling centre, working with families from very diverse communities.

Julia holds a BA from University College London and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of London.  As a teacher she worked for over 20 years in multicultural secondary schools in London, with pupils and parents from a wide range of backgrounds.

Julia completed her retraining as a Psychotherapist in 2009, having achieved first a Diploma in Systemic Practice with Families and Couples at the Institute of Family Therapy and then an MA in Systemic Psychotherapy at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust/University of East London.

Julia is a member of the Association of Family Therapy and is registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy.
